Black Heritage Month celebrations coming to Minto

Minto’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee welcome all to celebrate diversity and
meet Kween – ‘one of Canada’s 100 Top Black Women to Watch’- who is heading the Town of Minto’s
celebration of Black Heritage Month on Saturday morning, February 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in
the community room at the Harriston Library.
Kween, who lives in Guelph, is an entrepreneur and activist with a great presence and sense of humour.
She and a member of her TKC Dance Troupe will showcase Soca Dance, a Caribbean-styled artform to
upbeat Caribbean music as well as discussions around history and education of movement, dance, and
culture. In addition, hear about her frontline experiences in protest and what allyship can look like for
our communities.
Kween will also lead discussion and be open to questions from 11:30 to 12:30 while lunch is served. The
food, chicken dumpling soup, a Jamaican patty and a beverage is catered by local chef Ryan Balram of
Bigg Dogg & is included with admission.
Space is limited so please register by February 9 at the latest. Visit town.minto.on.ca/calendar to
register. There is a $5 fee to attend, which will include the cost of lunch and supports the continued
