Friday night’s fire at an apartment building on Main Street South in Mount Forest, is believed to have been accidental in nature, and is not considered suspicious.
Everyone in the building got out safely, but families were displaced. A number of apartments in the building suffered damage due to a partial roof collapse, and other apartments suffered smoke and water damage. The damage estimate is set at more than seven hundred and fifty-thousand dollars.
Victim Services and OPP were on scene working together to find displaced families lodging for the night, and Victim Services continued working with them over the weekend to find temporary lodging for them in the future. Seven out of ten families were displaced due to fire.
Approximately 60 firefighters were on the scene, including both stations from Wellington North, and mutual aid was provided from neighbouring fire departments including Minto, Durham, West Grey, and Southgate. Wellington North Fire praised all firefighters for containing the fire to one wing of the building.
Wellington North Fire Services said they want to thank all of their mutual aid partners for help with water supply.
