The Mount Forest Patriots went into the weekend with high hopes in their Schmalz Cup Quarter Final against the Stayner Siskins. The Patriots kicked off the series with home-ice advantage in front of a robust crowd at the MFDSC on Friday night. The Patriots seemed to be missing a step and dropped the opener 4-2.

The two clubs met again Sunday afternoon, April 23rd in Stayner with the Patriots coming out flying and taking the play to the Siskins. However, Damen Boose got a shot passed the Mount Forest keeper to give the home side a 1-0 lead.

Former Siskin Aiden Doig evened things up before the end of the first period while on the powerplay.

The two clubs traded goals in the second, but Stayner would run into penalty trouble near the end of the period which carried a 5 on 3 into the third frame.

Caleb Cribbin would give the Patriots the lead thirty seconds into the 3rd, and it was looking promising for the visiting club until Sam Vachon tied the game with 2:13 left in the third period.

In a back-and-forth overtime period, Chris Prucha would get his scond of the game at 7:05 of the extra frame to lift the Siskins to a 4-3 win and a 2-0 lead in the best of 7 series.

Game 3 will take place Tuesday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex with puck-drop at 8pm.
