Ribbon cutting for crossovers this September

The Township of Wellington North is inviting the public to ribbon cutting ceremonies at the first two Pedestrian Crossovers, and the completion of Smith Street Reconstruction in Arthur, on Thursday, September 19.
The Crossovers are located on Main Street North at Durham Street in Mount Forest, and Smith Street at Conestoga Street in Arthur.
Pedestrian Crossovers are designed to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely at a controlled crossing by activating the flashing lights to alert drivers to stop and yield. The crossovers also feature accessible push buttons and audible signals. The crossovers are the first of their kind in Wellington North.
The Smith Street Reconstruction Project involved the rehabilitation of the roadway asphalt surface, curb and sidewalk, accessible sidewalk ramps, replacement and installation of sanitary and water services at select locations, and pavement markings along Smith Street between Conestoga Street and Wells Street in Arthur.
The project was funded by the Ministry of Transportation’s Connecting Links program, which supports municipalities in maintaining and improving roads and bridges connecting two ends of a provincial highway.
The first ribbon cutting ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. at the crossover in Mount Forest. Then, at 11:30 a.m., the ribbon will be cut in Arthur, followed by a BBQ at Lions Park in Arthur.
