CUPE employees are expected to return to schools today following the Ontario government’s promise to rescind Bill 28.
CUPE Ontario School Board Council of Unions President Laura Walton said, “We have received and can confirm that the premier will introduce and support legislation that will repeal bill 28 in its entirety.”
A statement yesterday afternoon from the Upper Grand District School Board said, “Due to the expected resumption of provincial negotiations between CUPE and the province, CUPE employees will be back at schools effective Tuesday November 8th.
As such, there will be NO shift to remote learning in the UGDSB this week. All schools will remain open to students for in-person learning.”
While a date has not been set for a return to the bargaining table, the province said it plans to be back to negotiations as soon as possible.
