The Township of Wellington North announced yesterday it has received a $23,000 grant to develop and deliver a series of training opportunities for seniors across Northern Wellington.
Amy Tollefson, Human Resources Manager for the Township of Wellington North, said, “This funding will enable us to help Seniors better understand all the online tools available and will also help educate them on safe online practices.” Tollefson was the Project Lead on the application. Wellington North received the grant from the Federal Government as part of the New Horizons for Seniors Program. It’s a federal grants and contributions program supporting projects designed by and for seniors. Through the NHSP, the federal Government encourages seniors to share their knowledge, skills and experiences to the benefit of others. Mayor Andy Lennox said, “With this funding, we will be able to recruit a person who will connect with and deliver in-person workshops to seniors in our community. I would also like to acknowledge and thank our partners in Minto, Mapleton, Mount Forest Lions and the Seniors Centre of Excellence, who provided letters of support for this application.” Once the program is launched this Spring, it will be open to any senior in any of the three Northern Wellington Municipalities.
