The Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home was given an award for its wish fulfillment program at a provincial senior care convention on Friday, April 21st.
At the AdvantAge Ontario annual awards, the home’s Wellington Wishes program was recognized with the Supporting Seniors Award, recognizing a project that displays innovation, inspiration, positive outcomes and identifiable benefits.
Wellington Wishes involves home staff planning special events to grant residents’ wishes, with inspiration from friends, family, or the residents themselves. Since the program began in 2022, there have been 11 wishes granted; 14 are currently being planned for 2023.
One example of a wish granted was in early January of 2023, the Wellington Terrace had a very special visitor from the Guelph Storm… Spyke (the team’s loveable mascot) came to visit a lifelong fan.
Scott and his family have been avid Guelph Storm fans and season ticket holders for years.
Spyke made a special visit to bring some smiles and joy to Scott and his family after a challenging year.
