West Grey council passes 6% tax increase this week

West Grey council passed the 2023 municipal budget earlier this week. The approved budget focuses on maintaining infrastructure, investing in community development and delivering municipal programs and services to West Grey’s growing community.Mayor Kevin Eccles said, “The 2023 budget balances the maintenance of municipal services with sound investments into the future of our community.”West Grey’s tax levy increase for 2023 is $1,143,153. The estimated overall tax increase is just under six per cent, representing an estimated annual increase of $72.50 per $100,000 of assessment for a residential home. For an average West Grey residential property assessed at $258,000 this means a monthly increase of approximately $15.60 in 2023.Several operating and capital investment projects are in the works, including the refurbishment of the Neustadt water tower; the replacement of three bridges and culverts; and the new police station tendering and construction, among others.For more information, visit westgrey.com/budget.
