Environment Canada and the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority have wind advisories for today.
Environment Canada has a special weather statement warning of strong winds today into tonight. Westerly winds gusting from 70 to 80 km/h are expected into this evening in the wake of a strong cold front. The strongest winds are expected near the eastern shores of the Great Lakes where wind gusts up to 90 km/h may occur. Winds are expected to ease from west to east later tonight.
They warn strong winds may toss loose objects and cause tree branches to break. Isolated utility outages may occur.
The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority advises a gale wind warning is in effect for the Lake Huron shoreline. Waves are expected to build to heights of three to four meters by Wednesday evening.
Strong winds and saturated soils will increase the risk of erosion along the Lake Huron shoreline. While significant shoreline flooding is not expected, wave uprush, shoreline erosion and flooding of low-lying areas is expected. Residents and municipal officials are reminded to stay well back from the Lake Huron shoreline at this time. Municipal staff are recommended to monitor problem areas into Thursday with forecast conditions.
Saugeen Conservation staff will be closely monitoring the situation and will provide an update if conditions
change. This advisory remains in place until 10 p.m. tomorrow night.
